About Us

SMCVFD is an all-volunteer department that protects a 206 square mile rural district in southern Montgomery County, in southern Alabama.

This district has a population of over 4000 with approximately 1850 residences in 6 communities.

SMCVFD district is home to over 30 businesses including a large clothing outlet, a farm supply center store, equipment manufacturing plant, a telephone company, a bank, a grocery store, several service station/convenience stores and restaurants. There is also a propane gas storage facility inside the district and another just across our district line.

There are 2 schools, 2 libraries, a county engineering maintenance shop, county health department, and a sheriff's substation in the district.

SMCVFD's coverage area contains a major rail line, 2 US highways, and a state highway. US 231 & 331, are main travel and trucking routesĀ  to vacation destinations in the panhandle of Florida. US 231 also serves as the primary access to a missile manufacturing plant just 0.5 milesĀ South of our district and serves as a connection to several military facilities in central and south Alabama, and US 331 is a major route for suppliers to a Hyundai automotive assembly plant.

SMCVFD currently serves this district out of 4 stations.

Station 1 is centrally positioned within the district.

Station 2 is located in the southeastern part of the district and one block from US 231.

Station 3 covers the northwest and Station 4 covers the northeast.

All stations are equipped with class 1 pumper trucks. Stations 1, 2, & 3 have tankers. Stations 2 & 3 have basic service company trucks that double as rescue trucks. Stations 1, 3, & 4 have brush trucks.

SMCVFD has a membership of 40+ firefighters, EMT's, and support personnel.

SMCVFD also responds to assist 3 other volunteer departments within Montgomery County and 1 in Pike County.
